The Environmental Department does Phase I site assessments for personal property.  The report includes a history of the property, a description of the property, improvements needed to be made, utility services found and the environmental setting, including topography, geology and hydrogeology, and observations of the surrounding properties.

Phase I Environmental Site Assessment

Testing for Individual Substances

The Department also offers individual services for testing asbestos in houses, the presence of lead in both indoor and outdoor paint on pre-1978 built houses, water quality testing of the presence or absences of bacteria and heavy metals in personal wells, and the presence of mold inside private property.

Home Inspections

A home inspection assesses the mechanical and structural value of a property.  This is usually done for  real estate transactions at either the realtor or home owner’s request.

GPS Plotting

Global Positioning System (GPS) plotting is also available for individual properties.  Right now all the Department can do is take points on the property and download them into the computer; in the future we’ll be able to create maps that individuals can purchase.  This will be limited to the purchase of  their own personal property.
